Emsworth 8-0 AFC Eastney Reserves
Another mismatch came from a D7 team playing a D3 team
Eastney exited the Challenge Cup following a heavy defeat at Infinity FC this afternoon..
Eastney kicked off the match and unsurprisingly came under some early pressure against a side four divisions above them, with the home side forcing a corner after less than 2 minutes.
Emsworth's first real opportunity came two minutes later, with Eastney goalkeeper Romano Bradford making a fine save after the hosts broke down the right. Another, even better save followed just a minute later when he kept out a downward header that looked certain to open the scoring.
The hosts were not having it all their own way, though, with Michael Ericsson's glancing header beating everyone, but flying narrowly wide of the far post.
Two goals in quick secession on 11 and 12 minutes gave the hosts a comfortable lead, and it looked as though the visitors - who up until that point were dealing well with everything being thrown at them - might fold, but they held firm, with Kieran McCusker and Ross Withers in particular working well to snuff out some dangerous attacks, and Romano Bradford making a couple more of his trademark fantastic saves.
An injury to Ross withers in the 33rd minute saw a re-shuffle at the back, with Steve Beech coming on in an attacking role, and the hosts took advantage as Eastney adjusted to the change to score twice more, in the 35th and 40th minutes respectively.
Romano Bradford again came to Eastney's rescue in the opening minutes of the second half, with another fantastic save but was powerless to prevent a fifth Emsworth goal on 54 minutes. However the young 'keeper made another fine save on 66 minutes, with Lewis Davies taking care of the loose ball.
Steve Beech went close from a corner in the 70th minute, but a minute later the hosts had made it 6-0.
Two more fine saves from Romano Bradford who was in excellent form in the 75th and 83rd minute frustrated Emsworth, and with the clock ticking down and the game long since over as a contest, Easney gave a run-out to the veteran Marcus Deakins.
The dying moments of the game saw Emsworth net twice more, but Eastney could come away with heads held high after a spirited display against a side much higher in the league. And if it wasn’t for Eastney goalkeeper Romano Bradford the school line would’ve been a lot higher.
